   Specifications
Dimensions (inches):
  • 80”x 36”, 80”x 34”
  • All doors are 1¾” - 2” thick, carved center panels areas are approximately ½” – ¾” thick.
  • Special order optional size: 96” x 36” and 96” x 34”.
Trim:
Each door can be trimmed up to ½” on each side, and ½” on the top and bottom.
Doors are carved on a single side of the door panel and simply finished on the opposite side.
Customer can apply a trim suitable to the interior side of the door face as needed.

Weight:
Doors are approximately 77 to 90 lbs (35-48 kg) depending on the species selected and extent of the surface carvings. The dead weight of the door after the kiln drying process signifies the level of durability.

Drying:

All wood components are kiln dried to 6-8% of the wood’s moisture content. Shrinkage green is approximately 12% moisture context: radial of approximately 5.5%, tangential about 6.5%.

These measures are important to substantially reduce the natural internal strains inherent in wood fibers. The stated moisture values will allow significantly improved performance of our doors in extreme weather climates and reduce cracking and warping of constructed door.

Finish:

Each door is delivered with a very fine sand paper finish. This fine finish will allow your carpenter to apply suitable seals and stains as desired by you, with less preparation work. The doors are not finished with any type of stains, varnishes or finishes of any kind.

All doors sold unfinished.

Construction:
We utilize the stile and rail construction method. All exterior door designs are constructed with a lock rail for added stability and security. Steel anchor pins provide added stability between the stile and rail. These pins are hidden well below the minimum trim points of the stile and rail.

Grades:
Our grading system is used to distinguish between minor flaws in the natural wood and the finishing process. Note that small cracks, knots and color variations are part of the natural beauty inherent in wood and should not be constituted as a defect.
Stain Grade:   Premium quality. Ready for finishing with minimal preparation.
Craftsman Grade:   Excellent quality, characterized by spider cracks (1/8") and minor irregularities. Will require more sanding prior to final finishing.
Paint Grade:   For those who know their way around wood. May require some filling and finishing of fisher cracks greater then ¼". Due to use of wood filler, best finish is attained by painting for uniform final finish.

Hardwood Species Available (Latin):
  • Walnut Wood (iovoa trichilioides)
  • Odum Wood (chlorophora excelsa) similar in colour to dark Oak
  • Teak Wood (tektona grandis) very few designs
